Day 21: Why Are We Hoping to Adopt?
Angela: When we did our 60-days “Hoping to Adopt” posts last year, one of them was on a similar topic. Instead of writing it out again, I’ve included the blogpost below. I’m adding a few more thoughts here that I’ve never posted before:
This picture is the first time I got to hold Corinne after she was born. It’s a tender, vulnerable picture because not only do I see my sweet girl’s face tucked under my own, and her sweet body snuggled against mine, I see a few other things. I see how my face looks different (from the Bell’s Palsy [see the blogpost for more on that]). I see the IV’s in my arms, especially the one on my right arm where I couldn’t bend it or else my medication wouldn’t get to my body, and it would beep, which meant I could only hold Corinne one-armed for the first bit (which broke my heart). I see the arm cuff on my left arm that took my blood pressure automatically and often. I also see what is NOT in the frame. I see Brian by my side loving and supporting me (huge understatement). I see my phone with messages from family and friends offering love, encouragement, strength, prayers. I see loved ones who sat with me. I see the doctors and nurses who kept me and Corinne healthy and gently held my hand and heart for days in the hospital when for a lot of that time my strength and spirits were weak and low. I will forever love the staff at Lone Peak Hospital.
So, this is the beginning of our story that led us to our hope to adopt. I can tell you… We LOVE being parents. It is an amazing privilege, and we are really hopeful to grow our family through adoption:
